Help Rebuild and Support Us
The Impact of the Camp Fire
When the Camp Fire swept through the Town of Paradise, our entire community suffered great losses. Over 90% of the community lost their homes and jobs. At California Vocations, we faced significant devastation, losing most of our infrastructure, including all our offices, and most of our client housing, vehicles, and equipment. Despite this terrible disaster, there was a silver lining: we were able to get all our clients and staff out safely.
The Journey to Recovery
The last two years have been chaotic and stressful, but the CalVoc family has been working tirelessly to secure housing for our clients and employees, restart our day programs, and provide essential furniture and clothing. Our relentless efforts aim to restore a semblance of normalcy.
Our ability to overcome the unprecedented hurdle of the Camp Fire demonstrates that CVI’s core values are strong and our commitment and dedication are unshakeable. We feel the same strong dedication to everyone who passes through our doors, the same commitment to excellence, and the same respect for the talents, aspirations, dreams, and desires of the individuals and families who rely on us as an integral life support partner.
Growing Needs and Challenges
Now, more than ever, our needs are particularly great as we face the highest demand for our services. We have had to continually adapt how we deliver services and create supports to assist each individual in navigating the difficulties encountered since the Camp Fire. Our goal has been to help our clients explore new communities, develop new relationships, identify personal needs and interests, and increase independence to live the lives they desire.
Adapting to New Realities
The last two years of the pandemic have brought additional challenges, requiring us to work from individuals’ homes and increase our use of technology to maintain social ties and shared group activities while ensuring the safety of the individuals we support. The communities we serve are now spread out from Gridley and Oroville to Orland and Corning, and up into Paradise and Magalia. Continuing our programs across multiple locations with increased technology needs has strained our budget.
The Financial Outlook
Furthermore, the state is predicting a moderate deficit this year and a severe deficit next year, which will result in further unallocated budget reductions to providers like CVI.
